Detailed Itinerary – Shira Plateau Day Trip
07:00 – 08:00 | Morning Pick-Up
Your professional guide from Superior Kilimanjaro and Safaris will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. Enjoy a scenic drive through villages and forested areas toward Mount Kilimanjaro National Park.
10:00 | Arrival at Londorossi Gate
Arrive at the western entrance of Kilimanjaro National Park for registration and permits. Your guide will provide a briefing about the day’s activities and safety at altitude.
11:00 – 13:00 | Drive to Shira Plateau
Continue by vehicle to the Shira Plateau, ascending through forest and heath zones. Along the way, enjoy changing landscapes and occasional wildlife sightings such as colobus monkeys and antelope.
13:00 – 14:30 | Guided Walk on the Plateau
Explore the Shira Plateau on a gentle guided walk. Walk through wide-open alpine meadows, volcanic rock formations, and ancient lava flows while learning about Kilimanjaro’s geology, ecology, and climbing routes. On clear days, enjoy stunning views of Kibo Peak.
14:30 – 15:30 | Picnic Lunch
Enjoy a packed picnic lunch surrounded by vast high-altitude scenery and fresh mountain air. Take time for photography and relaxation before the descent.
15:30 – 18:30 | Descent and Return
After lunch, descend gradually back toward the park gate and begin the drive back to Moshi or Arusha. Arrival at your hotel is expected in the early evening.
